The holder of a PhD in public health, environmental toxicology option, Mr. Joseph Zayed is currently a full professor at Université de Montréal, where he also serves as director of the advanced Environment and Prevention program. Mr. Zayed obtained the Award of Excellence in Teaching from Université de Montréal in 1995. He was director of the Centre interuniversitaire de toxicologie from 2001 to 2004 and president of the Steering Committee of the Canadian Network of Toxicology Centres in 2003 and 2004. His research work and publications are geared to assessing environmental contamination, assessing the exposure of the public and workers, as well as estimating the health risk associated with chemical substances. Mr. Zayed has also served as an international scientific reviewer of several research studies dealing with the toxicology of metals.
A part-time member of the BAPE, Mr. Zayed has participated as a commissioner in the examination of six projects and directed, as chairman, two commissions of inquiry as well as five public hearing commissions.
